Bailey Scholarship Awards
All undergraduate students who will be enrolled at UIUC throughout the upcoming term are eligible to apply for an award of $3000. Students who have previously received an award are eligible to renew the scholarship each year but must demonstrate a continued commitment to service and/or activism, academic achievement, and personal development.
Eligibility
- Demonstrated impact of your commitment to service, community involvement, leadership, and action
- Awareness and critical thought about the pressing issues facing the world today
- Financial need and academic achievement will also be considered.
- Will be enrolled as an undergraduate at the University of Illinois throughout the upcoming academic year
To apply, complete the online application. All applications must be submitted by 5 pm on February 28.
Bailey Leadership Awards
The Bailey Leadership Awards are $5000 awards given each year to four exceptional upcoming seniors who have made a demonstrated impact on the University of Illinois campus during their initial three years on campus in one or more of the following areas: Social Justice, Environment, Faith in Action, and International Issues. Students who have previously received a Bailey Scholarship and will graduate during the upcoming year may still apply, but a Bailey Leadership award and Bailey Scholarship cannot both be received in the same academic year.
Eligibility
- Demonstrated commitment and impact towards Social Justice, Environment, Faith in Action, and/or International issues
- Awareness and critical thought about the pressing issues facing the world today
- Financial need and academic achievement will also be considered.
- Any undergraduate student who will graduate at the end of the upcoming academic year will be considered for the Bailey Leadership Award.
- Previous Bailey Scholarship Awardees who will graduate at the end of the upcoming academic year may apply for the Bailey Leadership Award.

Application Resources
Requirements for Recipients
If selected, you will be asked to demonstrate your commitment to your personal development as a leader. Failure to meet these requirements may result in forfeiture of current and future monetary awards. All Bailey Scholars and Leaders must:
- Participate in 2 leadership workshops or retreats each semester. These activities may be from a pre-approved list distributed to scholars or may be arranged with approval of the Bailey Scholarship Director
- Participate in 2 other enrichment activities each semester. These activities such as Friday Forum lectures or the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Resources lunchtime discussion series may be from a pre-approved list distributed to scholars or may be arranged with approval of the Bailey Scholarship Director.
Tips for Applicants
- Applicants are evaluated based on their impact and contribution in the areas of service and activism.
- Make sure you complete all parts of the application.
- Do not forget to include 2 letters of reference. References should be able to speak your service, community, and leadership activities in addition to academic achievement. Reference forms are available here (right click and choose "Save As") or download the Google Doc.
