At the University YMCA, building a strong global community begins at home. At the Y, we:
- Help young people develop cultural competencies
- Help diverse populations connect to the community
- Work with communities around the world to develop life-changing resources and support
Begin by exploring our global engagement programs and events above.
History: In an increasingly globalized society with rapidly changing demographics impacting communities of all sizes, YMCAs across the United States are discovering the need for - and significant advantages of - changing what it means to engage in global work. Since 1918, the University YMCA has hosted programs to foster international understanding and cultural awareness and provide service to international students, faculty, and staff.
Global Center of Excellence: The YMCA of the University of Illinois is recognized by the national office (YMCA of the USA) as a Global Center of Excellence (since 2013). As a globally-minded Y, we demonstrate a commitment to infusing a global framework into all aspects of organizational planning and execution. Each and every day, our organization strives to operate with a global perspective and responsibility to meet the needs of our changing communities both at home and abroad.
