9/21 - "What's on Stage Tonight?"
Mike Ross, Director, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts

9/28 – “The Price Tag on Education”
Robert Easter, Chancellor and Provost, University of Illinois
As chief executive of a campus with a $1.4 billion budget, Dr. Easter will address student and public concern surrounding University of Illinois’s adjusted tuition expense, issues of state funding, and a hopeful glance towards the University’s future bottom line.
10/5 - “Student Efforts for a Sustainable Campus”
Suhail Barot, Chair, campus Student Sustainability Committee
Suhail Barot discusses how students have been the primary driver of sustainability at the University of Illinois for the past few years. This presentation will provide an overview of campus sustainability, and the newly adopted Climate Action Plan, in addition to discussing specific student efforts such as the student green fee projects, participation in the Colleges Beyond Coal campaign, and other efforts.
10/12 – “iFoundry, iEFX, and HAPI; Transforming Engineering Education”
Ray Price, Co-Director, iFoundry
Discover ways iFoundry is forging widespread educational change emphasizing philosophical and pervasive collaboration through organizational and political change. This cross-disciplinary curriculum incubator in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign supports student aspirations, choices, and engagement in the educational process of engineering.
10/19 – “Building a Native-Centered Learning Community”
Irvin Harrison, Director, Native American House
Irvin Harrison announces recent developments and changes made under his leadership. Opening and encouraging discussion about the complexity of intersecting identities, student and community members are invited to embrace the value of differences in individuals, communities, and cultures, while exploring diversity and inclusion through local and global lenses.
10/26 – “Humanities on Campus”
Nancy Abelmann, Associate Vice Chancellor, Research for the Humanities, Arts, and Related Fields; Dianne Harris, Director, Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities
Professors Abelmann and Harris will describe humanities initiatives and programs on our campus, as well campus areas of scholarly strength. They will broadly discuss what the humanities bring to the millennial university and consider particular challenges and potentials at the U of I.
11/2 – “Sousa and His League of Players: Field Trip to the Sousa Archives”
Scott Schwartz, Director and Archivist, Music and Fine Arts
Scott Schwartz will lead us on a tour of The Sousa Archives and Center for American Music. The Center acquires and preserves significant archival records and historical artifacts in multiple media formats that document America's local and national music history and its diverse cultures.
11/09 “University-in-Prison: the Education Justice Project”
Rebecca Ginsburg, Director, Education Justice Project (EJP)
Rebecca Ginsburg follows up her Friday Forum Lecture given on the Education Justice Project, a higher education prison program that offers on-site classes to men incarcerated at a local state prison. In addition to describing the Education Justice Project in greater detail, Ginsburg will discuss the values of higher education more generally, how they lend themselves to the healing and transformation processes that can take place within prisons, to and the implications of EJP’s work for the larger campus.
Funding
The University YMCA relies on contributions to cover costs associated with this program. There are several lunch options offered through the Y Thai Eatery for only $6.00 ($3.00 for students with a valid school ID). If you would like lunch, you may mail a check (payable to the University YMCA) with your registration form or pay at the door. Your meal reservation will be checked at the reservation desk prior to each talk. Lunch reservations can also be made by emailing Samantha or calling (217) 337-1500. You can reserve your meals for the entire series for only $42.00 - this includes a free lunch! Lunch for individual lectures can also be reserved or purchased at the door.
