Responsibilities of being a Program of the University YMCA

1. Act in a manner consistent with the mission of the University YMCA.  ìOur mission is to challenge and nurture the mind and spirit of individuals and communities to develop and practice ethical principles and responsible leadership for social justice and the integrity of our natural world.î

2. Include the “A Program of the University YMCA” logo on any fliers, brochures, newsletters, t-shirts, press releases, web sites or promotional videos produced.

3. Include “A program of the University YMCA: www.universityymca.org” in any e-mail you send to your groups e-mail list.

4. Mention that your organization is a program of the University YMCA in contact with the media.

5. All student members of your program will receive a free membership to the University YMCA, and therefore you will need to provide a list of your members to the YMCA staff.  Membership is to be defined as you see fit, but should entail more then just the core leader structure of the group.  Also, you will allow YMCA staff to send two email per year to your email list inviting them to become members.

6. Reporting on your organizations upcoming events to Y staff two or three weeks prior to the event date.  This is so that we can pass the information on to others who may be interested via our student member email list, website and calendars.

7. Participate in YMCA leadership, such as attending retreats, the Annual Luncheon and serving on the Board of Governors and supporting committees.  It is typical to have at least one member of your group on the Board of Governors and to have all core members attend the Annual Luncheon and Programs Retreat.

8. Writing articles and submitting information for the “Highlights” newsletter late each semester and the University YMCA’s Annual Report at the end of each school year.

9. Use the building responsibly, abide by building codes.  This includes keeping the Student Programs Office clean!

10. Help with University YMCA fundraisers, especially Annual Garage Sale. For the Garage Sale, you can assist by bringing items to sell, advertising the event on your groups email list, and especially being present to work at the sale. For other events we strongly encourage that you can advertise the event by sending an email to you group, volunteer your time at the fundraiser or donate to the Y by participating in the fundraiser.

11. If it is brought to the attention of the Programs Committee that a YMCA sponsored student organization is not living up to it’s responsibilities as a program of the University YMCA, then it will be up to that committee to decide what action should be take to rectify the situation.

12. We strongly encourage your group to create and teach one Communiversity course each year.
