Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the best way for me to donate?
If you are making a large or recurring gift and would like to use your credit card, please use the online donation page here. This online donation system also allows you to set up a recurring transfer from your bank account. We accept checks and cash by mail as well. Checks should be made payable to the University YMCA and sent to:
The University YMCA
1001 S. Wright St.
Champaign, IL 61820
Smaller gifts (approximately $25 or less) can be made with the convenience of PayPal if you already have a PayPal account by clicking here.
How can I specify or designate how I'd like the YMCA to use my donation?
Most donations received which are not specified are part of our Annual Fund, an operating budget that keeps our student programs, lectures, and events going year in and year out. If you are passionate about a specific Y program, our building renovation, or a student group, you can specify that your donation should go to that cause simply by writing its name in the comment field of the check or online form. If you are donating to our building fund, specify "Capital Campaign."
Recently, the Y has implemented a new system called Designated Program Funds. More information coming soon...
How and when will I receive acknowledgement of my gift or pledge?
Please allow up to two weeks for processing, especially during busy times such as major holidays and the end of the year. You will receive a thank you letter in the mail acknowledging your gift or pledge. Whether you pay in person, by check, or online, you'll receive a thank you letter and end of the year tax letter. If you have set up a recurring gift schedule and would prefer not to receive a thank you letter along with each installment, please decline all but end of the year tax letters in the comment field or by contacting us directly.
If you use PayPal to donate, you can expect a receipt in the form of an end of the year tax letter, but you will not receive any additional letters in the mail unless you request one.
