TB Testing: Everything you need to know
Why do I have to have a TB test?
TB is airborne and incredibly contagious, therefore it is easily spread through schools. You may have TB and spread it without knowing you have it.
What if I already had a TB test?
If you have had the test done within the last year, bring in proof of your test and negative results. You will not have to take another test.
Where do I go?
McKinley Health Center will perform the TB test for you. Just stop by the Immunization and Travel Clinic of the McKinley Health Center. You do not need an appointment, but it is first come first serve.
How much will it cost?
McKinley will do the test for FREE as long as you are a student at the University and have paid your health fee.
When can I get it done?
Tuberculosis testing is performed in the Immunization and Travel Clinic during walk-in hours: Monday through Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Note: No testing is done on Thursday). It is fast and relatively painless.
Will I have to go back?
Yes, you need to go back to McKinley 48-72 hours after you have the test performed for them to read the results.
Do I have to get anything signed?
Yes, you must bring the attached form with you when you go back to get the test checked. After you have cleared, they will sign the form. Just make sure to bring this form to your interview or to your coordinator.
Can I be placed before getting the test done?
Unfortunately, no. We must have proof that you have passed the TB test before we can place you in the schools. You may interview with a coordinator prior to having the test done, but they will not be able to place you into a school until you pass the TB test.
