Mary Beastall grew up in Princeton IL and then earned a B.S. and an M.S. in Education. Further graduate work centered on educational policy at UIUC and guidance and counseling at the University of Louisville where she also supervised student teachers. She was an elementary public school teacher for over 8 years in Champaign, Evanston, LaGrange, Petaluma CA and Louisville KY. She was then an administrator in the systems offices at UI for 25 years with varying responsibilities in human resources, nondiscrimination and affirmative action, working with colleagues on the three campuses.
Her first experience at the Y was having coffee and a doughnut in the K Room and then later serving on committees and the Board of Governors where she was chair. She has participated in over 20 Road Scholar trips, often hiking in national parks. She enjoys visiting family in Houghton MI in the UP (a favorite place), San Francisco and Denver.
