What is Dump & Run®?

Dump & Run® keeps over 30 tons of used, quality goods out of Champaign-Urbana’s dumpsters and landfills each year. This project reduces litter and consumer waste, saves space in landfills, lowers dumping costs for certified housing and apartments and provides inexpensive items for folks to purchase in the fall. (Note: F&S at the University of Illinois coordinates a separate Dump & Run program during move-out week in May. The University YMCA is not involved with that spring effort.)

Donate: What We Accept

We welcome almost everything in good, usable condition. If you’re unsure whether an item is in good enough shape, bring it anyway – we’ll do our best to find it a new home. Clothing must be in nearly-new condition.

We collect:

  • Furniture and home goods
  • Dishes, glassware, pots & pans
  • Mini-fridges and small appliances
  • Working computers and electronics
  • Bicycles
  • Office and school supplies
  • Books, vinyl records, CDs, musical instruments
  • Artwork, jewelry, sporting equipment
  • Non-perishable food items, toiletries
  • Lawn & garden items

We DO NOT collect:

  • CRT televisions or monitors (absolutely no exceptions)
  • Non-flat screen TVs
  • Mattresses, sleeper sofas, foam mattress pads
  • Full-size fridges, stoves, washers, dryers, large exercise equipment
  • Non-working electronics or computer parts
  • Car seats, cribs, helmets, or other items requiring recertification
  • Paint, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, pianos
  • Christmas and holiday decorations

The University YMCA and Stock Pavilion are monitored for illegal dumping. For electronics recycling options, visit champaignil.gov/recycling. The University YMCA reserves the right to refuse any donation based on size, weight, condition, or other reason.

FAQs

Is there a spring Dump & Run program?

What forms of payment are accepted at the Big Sale?

  • Credit/debit, check, cash (denominations of $50 or less), Venmo, and PayPal.

What is the “Free Sale”?

  • At the close of the Big Sale on Sunday, any remaining items that haven’t been purchased or claimed by partner nonprofits are available for free. It runs approximately 2:30 to 3pm on August 23. We’d rather see everything go home with someone than end up in a dumpster.
